Hey, this is Pamela C. This makes no sense to me. I don't get it.

Should've used the Sarc Mark I guess...I think it's meant to be sarcastic. And funny. I laughed... :-)

True, if there is any one staff member that gets no respect, it is the cataloguer. It is also true that if there is any one staff member that is going to shank anyone, it is the cataloguer.

catalogers make the library run. they own the library. gotta remind those reference librarians of their place once in awhile. doing it publicly reminds the patrons, too.

Catalogers actually know what's in the collection and where it's located. If I had a nickel for every time a reference librarian asked me if we had [Title X] and where it might be, I could have retired years ago.

Oh, I respect the cataloger. There has to be a serious problem for me to call, for I fear their OCD-driven conniptions even over the phone when I find a label mistake. (They are a critical bunch...and it's not as if I go looking for these errors!)

All reference librarians should be required to spend a week cataloging. That'd shut em up.

Funny, but inaccurate. Catalogers seem more real and sane than the reference people I've worked with.
I am a reference librarian. A very nervous reference librarian

At least once per year, one of your library's catalogers should walk up to the reference desk and shank a reference librarian with a letter opener. These public shows of aggression will earn you the respect of your colleagues and help maintain the social order in your library.

What if you don't have a letter opener handy? Can you improvise? How well does a paper clip hold an edge?

I think this is the funniest one you've come up with yet. Thank you for making me laugh!

I laughed outloud.

So, only catalogers not ref librarians are allowed to go postal? Both are totally insane!!!

when I was a cataloger, back in the olden days, there was another cataloger who thought I was trying to kill him by psychological means...

Garbage. It's the pages/aides/reshelvers who really know where everything is!
