But anonymous, haven't some of your most entertaining moments at work come while reading an email sent in haste, repented of at leisure? (Unless, of course, it's one that you sent, in which case few things sting worse.)

Well, unstriken, yes I have. But I lose my sense of humor when it happens over and over and over again...
And PROOF-READ, for the love of all that is sweet and holy. If you've got the time to send out a message to the entire staff, you've got the time to distinguish between "there" and "their."

And "threw" and "through", "broke" and "broken" (as in "the copier is broke)...
Proof-reading would (presumably) get rid of my favorite librarian typo--the one where a co-worker asks someone to "swap reference shits."

What I hate are mass email vacation notices. The academic library system I work in employs over 350 people and I don't give a flying f- if you have next Friday off. These messages are usually from department heads who think that if they take one day off all 349 of us will be scratching our heads wondering where they are.

Do not annoy your library coworkers by sending too many mass email messages. Mass emails should be sent sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary.
A librarian should be given a lifetime quota of mass emails (say... 15?) when signing an employment contract at his or her library. Once the quota is reached, the librarian's email account would then auto-delete and the offender would be ejected from his or her chair, out of the library, and into the fiery pits of Hell.
