About Me

37 yr old single man, in the Bronx, NYC, lowly but happy PhD candidate - Biblical Studies "track" (OT focus) in theology at Fordham Universtity, the Jesuit University of NYC. -"Merlin" is short for "Merlinus Ambrettus," my adaptation of my full name (Merle Brett Kendall, first name in honor of my grandfather, Merle Verle Kendall)to that CS Lewis gave the Merlin character in "That Hideous Strength" - Merlinus Ambrosius. Hagrid in Harry Potter, commenting on which series is my schtick here online, at www.mugglematters.com, is very like Lewis' Merlin in physical stature, and my current wiry, bushy red beard could be compared to both Lewis's Merlin and Rowling's Hagrid (whose hair and eyes are black, but "Reubeus" means "red" in Latin) ... Not to mention that Hagrid's last name is a bit like that of Merle Haggard (who played a fair bit with Johnny Cash, of whom I am huge fan) ... pick whichever you like - I like 'em all. But remember that Merlin began in the Arthurian legends, like me, as a nutter up in the hills
