| Introduction | I am a deranged mechanical engineer, now fallen from grace and stuck in web applications development hell after trying my luck at warmongering and the excesses of the first dot-com frenzy. I am the alpha geek at a very small market research firm somewhere around the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Like all alpha geeks, I walk around my turf, beating my chest, hollering and showing my crooked teeth at the slightest hint of any lesser geek trying to thread into my territory. It is a hell of a lot of fun for me, but not a lot of fun for the lesser geeks that try me. In reality, as it happens in most small businesses, I have to switch roles depending on the need. This means that at any given time I may be the senior developer (just last week I subscribed to one of those free magazines for geeks and in the “title” box I typed “señor developer”), the CTO, the CIO or just the computer guy. In my off time I watch too much damn CSI, plus 24, The Shield plus most of whatever HBO shows on Sunday nights. I also like digital photography and movies. I am also the leader of the raging band of misfits in Undernet’s #asp that refuse to help anyone that is still learning ASP 3.0. |
