About Me

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of St. Andrews. My current research project positions itself in the transatlantic, early modern period between Jonathan Edwards and Andrew Fuller and their attempts to express a coherent understanding of traditional dogma within the context of the Enlightenment. The scope of the research will trace Fuller’s theological indebtedness by way of historical reconstruction, textual expositions, theological and philosophical implications of the following works: Freedom of the Will, Religious Affections, Original Sin, Humble Attempts, Nature of True Virtue, and Justification by Faith Alone. The basis for the discussion to be conducted in this study is an attempt to determine the extent to which these treatises of Edwards have had an impact upon Fuller’s thought. The dissertation is projected for submission in February of 2008. This work was preceded by my Th.M. thesis at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, which looked at the relationship between Edwardsean epistemology and pneumatology. Before completing my doctoral degree I will have published four articles on Fuller, and afterwards plan to convert my dissertation into a monograph.
