Introduction Dr. Ron Bouchard is a professor of law and medicine. His career has focused on the science, law, regulation and commercialization of medical research, and strategic planning for commercialization of innovative technologies. He began his career as a scientist in the areas of ion channel biophysics and Ca2+ imaging. He shifted to law, and has been involved in the prosecution, acquisition, financing, distribution and litigation of intellectual property rights. He has appeared before the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada, and consults with firms, universities, governments and international organizations on legal, regulatory and policy matters. He also works with government on drug approval, public private partnership and commercialization matters. His work has been funded by major federal and provincial funding agencies and endowments. Dr. Bouchard currently conducts research on drug approval, innovation law and policy, commercialization of publicly funded medical research, IP and regulatory rights relating to medical products, and the relation between technological and biological systems or networks for distributive theories of justice and democracy.
