About me

Introduction Over the course of a week back in 2011, I had a commitment ceremony with my partner B, turned 50, and commenced chemotherapy. Six weeks later we were told that my cancer wasn't responding to the chemo, and that the tumours had spread throughout my abdomen. I began a new regime of chemo and was given a new diagnosis, incurable cancer. Six months later the chemo again hasn't worked and the tumours are bigger than ever. The good news, and it is good news, is that the tenacious buggers haven't spread to my lungs or liver. So, I am starting a trial drug that will hopefully shrink the tumours. I wanted to keep my family in Australia up to date with what was felt like rolling news, so I started this blog. It was also easier to write bad news than it was to deliver bad news to my friends. So, I became a foreign correspondent, at times I felt like a war correspondent, reporting back from a land I thought I knew and which I had taken for granted for 50 years: my body.
