| Introduction | - I am a public sociologist. - Through my academic studies I don't want to merely interpret the world/society I study, but change it. No ivory tower for me, I want to get down and academically/publically dirty. Academia has a unique position to advance knowledge of social issues and solutions for these. It can also promote awareness, raise collective consciousness and enhance the ability to make social change. - It is time that academics break through their little offices and actually delve into, represent, and act on the society they claim to study. Not just talk about it. |
