| Introduction | On August 31, 2004, Jaime and I retired from our wine-importing business, left Richmond, Virginia, where we’d lived for 28 years and moved permanently to the Golden Isles of Southeast Georgia. For those not familiar with the nomenclature, “Golden Isles” refers to the cluster of barrier islands off the coast of Georgia adjacent to the port city of Brunswick. The islands include St. Simons Island, Little St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Jekyll Island. As most of my friends and family know, I am a hopeless beach bum, and my world revolves around the ocean. I actually have a theory of why this is so. I truly believe that all animal life evolved from the ocean, and as my life has entered its final phase, I am irresistibly drawn back to its salty comfort.
