Introduction Yulia Arakelyan discovered dance in 2002 when she attended a performance by Light Motion Dance Company in Seattle. Nine months later she was on stage, dancing with the company in her first performance. Yulia has been dancing non-stop ever since. From 2004-2005 she trained with CandoCo Dance Company in London, England as part of their Foundation Course in Dance. During her stay in England she also had the opportunity to work with FRONTLINEdance Company. In 2007, Yulia was the first wheelchair user to graduate from the University of Washington with a BA in Dance. Yulia’s current movement and performance interests center around Butoh. She has studied with Mizu Desierto, Sheri Brown, Haruko Nishimura, Katsura Kan, and many other Butoh artists from around the world. Yulia’s other performance projects include Wobbly Dance: a multi-disciplinary performance project utilizing dance, visual art and video to create a multi-sensory performance experience often exploring themes of nature.
