About me

Introduction I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May, 2006, and underwent a lumpectomy followed by a mastectomy. The reconstruction procedure I wanted was not offered in my home state, so four months later, I had unilateral stacked DIEP flap reconstruction in New Orleans. Later I learned that my risk for cancer in the other breast was high and possibly a precursor to an aggressive cancer that is difficult to detect. I returned to New Orleans for a prophylactic mastectomy of my other breast, with nipple-sparing SGAP reconstruction. Now both breasts are restored and cancer free. Sandy Keller (California), Kim Sport (New Orleans), and I (Minnesota) started the Breastoration Foundation to educate women about the many reconstructive options available today and also to help women in financially challenging circumstances who cannot afford the associated costs for breast reconstruction. We operate under the umbrella of The Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (C.A.G.N.O.). http://www.cagno.org/
