| Introduction | Right before the winged thing becomes what it is, it needs to be something else. Chrysalis, or chrysalid; the state before completion. It's a furtive, liminal place that wants to be someplace else. It's change in progress. It's making progress toward a new kind of change. I'd like to talk about the body: about having one, loving it, decorating it, cherishing it, healing it. About feeding it, hating it, running away from it, getting it stuck in things. About painting it, primping it, fighting for its needs and desires, and sticking with it, wherever it goes. (Or we go. Or I go.) So this is all of that. It's also about pretty jewelry and comfortable bras, geek chic, navigating the plus-size wonderland, vintage shopping, and making the perfect pair of cow earrings. I believe women's fashion has a system, and that it is possible to be both comfortable and stylish. I believe there's a day coming when women can uncover what they want to do about and to their own bodies. And that on that day, someone should know where the best shoes are. |
