About Me

I grew up in central New York, where I developed my life-long love of the outdoors. We spent time in "the woods" (a parcel of land owned by my grandparents) having cookouts year-round, learning how to shoot, picking berries when ripe. My paternal grandmother instilled in me a love of wildflowers. My maternal grandparents and great-grandparents taught me my birds. I spent many hours sitting up in a tree in our back yard, occasionally sneaking down to the pasture behind the house to explore the creek. After getting my BS in forestry and biology at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), I interned at a nature center and decided being a naturalist was "IT." From there I spent some time in Alaska, worked as a naturalist in NJ, and went back to ESF for my Master's. MS under my belt, I went on to work at a zoo, then in VT, and eventually landed in the Adirondacks, which I have loved since I was a kid. My passions are wetlands, canoeing, tracking, primitive skills, and native cultures from all over the world.
