About Me

I am a professional singer/ songwriter and have recorded 9 cds for labels such as SIRE, Antone's, Rounder and RUF records. My newest cd is called Super Hero and will be released June 15 on the Delta Groove label. My music is also available at Itunes and Amazon.com . I use my songwriting and music to hopefully inspire others to live their dreams and accept themselves. I recently had pancreatic cancer and had the whipple procedure in april 2008. I am feeling great and grateful for every moment I have on this planet.I grew up in East Los Angeles and was a mother at 17. I became a sex worker to get off welfare and become financially emancipated and financed my musical aspirations. My eldest son is the drummer in my band. My youngest son is also a musician. I raised both of my kids in a household environment where they could play music and be creative. I believe the key to happiness is to accept yourself, learn to love your physical body and forge ahead with your dreams, no matter what. I am writing a memoir about my life and write a regular column for a comic magazine.
