About me

Location Washington, D.C., United States
Introduction I would like to consider myself a light-hearted adventurer who has no fear of expanding my knowledge of the world and reaching new limits...the reality is that I am a city girl from the DC suburbs with a minuscule amount of actual useful knowledge of non-Western cultures. Like any optimistic 20-something who has seen few real horrors in her lifetime, I have dreams of moving to Africa to 'save the world' from poverty, corruption, and injustice. I have a strong conviction that the human race can pull itself out of these global epidemics and I would like to be an example of this. Another reality is that I live in a superficial society under a consumer capitalist economy with a very strong power of persuasion which specifically targets my age group and gender. I am constantly met by overwhelming examples of materialism, reminding me that change will take a much larger action than my refusing to buy Nike, Ralph Lauren, and diamonds. This is my attempt to escape the blind capitalism that rules my everyday life and jump into a world that values the things Westerners take for granted every day: health, education, safety, fresh food, clean water, and opportunity in general.
