Introduction I was a student of religious nationalism long before I knew what it was. It was not enough that I was born in Pakistan, I had to come off age during General Zia's rule. Religious nationalism was flowing everywhere and I drank it too but perhaps not too much. After being a Pakistani civil servant and consultant/project manager for international organizations, I decided to explore religious nationalism further. So, I applied and got a PhD scholarship at age 39. I completed my PhD in 2015 by writing my dissertation on the role of religious nationalism in the politics of Turkey and Pakistan. In 2017, this dissertation was published as a book by Palgrave, titled State, Nationalism, and Islamization: Historical Analysis of Turkey and Pakistan. Currently, I am an academic. I am interested in Pakistan, Turkey, Israel, Iran, and Saudi Arabia but I do not limit myself to these countries. So, if I see religious nationalism, I write about it whether it is in India, Sri Lanka, Malta, Bhutan, Malaysia, Nicaragua, the US, or Ireland.
