Favorite Movies I once sat down to write a list of my ten favorite films. A hundred or so films later, I realized that picking ten might be impossible. Here's a bunch: Silent films: Modern Times (Chaplin), The General (Buster Keaton). From my childhood: Hans Christian Anderson, Bambi, Snow White, Shane. Science fiction: The Incredible Shrinking Man, the original War of the Worlds and original The Time Machine, Aliens. Drama: Stalag 17 with William Holden, The African Queen, The Great Escape, 400 Blows (Truffaut), Bridge on the River Kwai, Dr. Zhivago, The Rules of the Game (Jean Renoir); Casablanca, Black Orpheus, Charlie, Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Network, Crash, Capote, The English Patient, Philadelphia, Phenomenon, Cinema Paradiso, Babette's Feast, Il Postino, Cider House Rules.
