Joe Leydon

About Me

JOE LEYDON was born and raised in New Orleans, where he acquired a taste for fine food and hearty partying at an early age, and graduated from Loyola University, where he developed an equally passionate regard for Charlie Chaplin and Francois Truffaut while studying under the late, great Tom Bell. After repeated failed attempts to find honest work, he decided to make a living by getting paid to watch movies. An award-winning film critic for Variety, he’s also an adjunct professor at University of Houston's Jack J. Valenti School of Communication and Houston Community College, communications director for Cowboys & Indians magazine, and host of his own website at MovingPictureShow.com. From 1982 until 1995, he was film critic for The Houston Post. Since the paper's demise, he has reviewed films for the San Francisco Examiner, MSNBC.com, and NBC affiliate KPRC-TV. Leydon also has written for New York Daily News, Los Angeles Times, Newsday, The Boston Globe,The Toronto Star, and Austin American-Statesman; MovieMaker, Film Comment and New Orleans magazines. His book "Joe Leydon's Guide to Essential Movies You Must See" is available at Amazon.com and fine bookstores everywhere.

What spells can you cast with magic markers?

None. I'm a notoriously bad speller. If I could meet the man or woman who invented SpellCheck, I would buy him or her dinner.
