| Introduction | Ruffian Records is a small DC record label started by Hugh McElroy in 1996 to put out a 7" by the DC/NYC band The Vestpocket Psalm (rr001). Over the next few years the label primarily released tapes and 7"s by bands Hugh was in (AKA Harlot #1, Exaspirin, No-Gos, Black Eyes) but began to branch out to release other friends like BOHICA, Turn Pale, La Mi Vida Violenta, and Sentai (Hugh later joined Sentai). More recently the label has put out records by Equinox, Hand Fed Babies, Sentai, Bird Noises, and Hume. The Ruffian catalogue is available digitally through iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, and Amazon.com, or by mailorder direct from Ruffian (see below) or from Dischord records (www.dischord.com) as well as in many independent stores in DC and beyond.
