| Introduction | I'm Dymphna Gruijters, MS, IBCLC, and I work as an exhibitor for Lansinoh. I have five years of experience working as a lactation consultant for a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program in Los Angeles. I loved working with low-income African American and Hispanic women to encourage, educate, and assist them with breastfeeding. I also provided breastfeeding peer-counselor training for a staff of 80 people. I consulted for a local hospital, where I taught basic baby-care and breastfeeding classes. I grew up in the Netherlands and spent my childhood as a gymnast, which caused me to develop bulimia. I studied at the University of Amsterdam, where I earned Kandidaats and Doctorandus degrees in resp. Child Development and Family Studies. I moved to the U.S. in 1982 and became involved with a 12-step program for people with eating disorders, and worked as an eating disorder counselor. I worked for a couple of years as a preschool director and was a stay-at-home mom too. I relocated to the Netherlands in 2010, and hope to work as a lactatie deskundige (lactation expert) in the southern part of the country soon. I have two beautiful children, both of whom were breastfed. |
