| Introduction | I worked as a freelance writer for the New Catholic Explorer newspaper for five years before I became interested in writing for children. I've also had articles and essays published in the Chicago Tribune and several magazines, including Writer’s Digest, Catholic Parent, and Catholic Library World. After the children's writing bug bit me, I went back to school and completed an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College. While in the program, I started working on my middle-grade novel, Rosa, Sola, which was later published by Candlewick Press. I've also had short stories, poetry and puzzles published in magazines and anthologies for children and teens. I'm currently working on a historical novel set in 18th-century Italy, as well as several picture books. I have taught writing classes for adults at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois since 1998. I also teach writing classes for third through eighth-graders at the Hinsdale Center for the Arts. |
