About Me

I travelled a lot in younger days to film festivals in many countries looking for films which would provoke discussion among teenagers. One of these festivals took place in Poland and about 35 years ago I came in touch with Esperanto. Previously I had always been a failure at learning a foreign language. French, German and then Russian were all tried and no progress made. But with Esperanto it was quite different and within 4 months I was able to converse, slowly it's true, but I could understand and be understood. From then on I made contact with Esperanto clubs throughout Europe and even as far East as Siberia. I still find it facinating to travel to strange places and meet strangers who immediately became friends. With the advent of email it is so easy (and cheap) to keep in touch.

Favorite Movies

• Some will count these as very 'old hat' but the film of J.B. Priestly's 'An Inspector Calls' with Alastair Sim as the mysterious Inspector is a film I can watch time after time. Another film which I greatly admire is 'Twelve Angry Men'.

• Chopin
• Shostakovich and Rachmaninov are my favourite composers.

Favorite Books

• I have to confess that I am rather a political animal and currently books about how Britain was dragged into the Iraq War and books about political scandals can always hold my attention.
