| Introduction | After writing several letters to the editor, in 2001 I was asked to start writing a weekly opinion column for our local newspaper. Using that column, I raised enough money to purchase a bullet proof vest for each of our town's two police service dogs. I think the column has meant a great deal to a lot of people because in 2007 I chose to take a hiatus from the column. A week rarely goes by without meeting someone who asks me what is happening with Reality Check. I'll probably go back to it in 2009. I have always considered myself the only real Canadian Republican on the planet. This entire country is too liberal for me and Ronald Reagan is my all-time hero. So I was completely shocked when I took an on-line test in which I discovered that when it comes to security, defense, the economy, law enforcement etc I was a Republican but when it comes down to equal rights and the environment, I am a Democrat. |
