About me

Location Toulouse, France
Introduction I am an American who relocated to France in summer 2016 with my small family — which includes The Frenchman, who had pretty much lived in the US for the previous twenty-five years; and le petit garçon, 5 at the time, who attends public school. We embarked on this adventure, which will last we don’t know how long, in Toulouse, which lies in the southwest near the Pyrenees, happily equidistant-ish from the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Visual art is my vocation and sometimes even my line of work, and I propose to share the fruits of my labors here, as I discover among the hills and valleys of living abroad the hidden treasures. I arrived speaking a lick of French but not much more; this is one of my chief undertakings here, which I find rather intimidating, humbling, and at times downright humiliating. Through this blog — which like me is a work in progress — I aim to explore the unexpected finds amidst what sometimes appear at first as losses. When trouble arises, a dysthymic like me can tend to begin with the question, What’s wrong? But hell, What’s not wrong? What, for that matter, is right?
