Introduction Doug Ferguson is a scholar in telecommunications and new media. Dr. Ferguson came to the College of Charleston in 1999 as the first department chair, after serving as TCOM department chair for the final two years of his 12-year stint at Bowling Green State University. He was also the Assistant Dean for Resources and Planning at BGSU for three years. Having completed his five-year term as department chair at C of C, Dr. Ferguson now serves as Graduate Program Director of the Master of Arts program. He also is the editor of Journal of Radio Studies, published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Ohio State in 1973, where he also received his master's degree. For 14 years, Dr. Ferguson served in the field of telecommunications, including the last eight as a station manager and program director for an NBC-TV affiliate. Since returning to academia in 1987, Dr. Ferguson has forged a prolific research stream, including three popular textbooks, 19 book chapters, numerous academic journal articles and more than 30 refereed papers. His research interests includes television viewing behavior patterns, media programming industry, and new media.
