| Introduction | I find in painting a process that blurs the divide between the act of simply observing a thing and the experience that comes from interacting with that thing. This process begins with looking intensely and persistently, and continues to deepen as the painting begins. It creates a connection between the artist and the subject that suspends time and acts as a catalyst to feed the reinvention and representation of the observed. Could I say "I've found my way of working"? Perhaps. I'm intrigued by the discovery of subtleties in color and form and how to re-purpose them for the viewer. I hope that the simple beauty of shadow on a white wall or the importance of the landscape can be reinterpreted in ways that may bring new experiences, understandings, and enjoyment to people. |
