Introduction Capt. Cash (Jim) earned his USCG 100 ton Masters license first in the great lakes in 1991. His sailing career started in his preteen years and the procession of boats owned, both sail and power, continued through college and his working career. He earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and MBA from Ohio State University. His epic non-fiction book "First Time Across" came about as a result having a catamaran built in South Africa after he retired and then sailing it to his home in Los Angeles, CA. Also, in retirement, Jim divides his time between Marina del Rey, where he lives with his lovely wife Valerie and works in the marine industry as a captain, instuctor and yacht broker, their beach house on Dauphin Island, AL where he writes, and the family ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii (www.puakearanch.com) where they go to vegetate. He has also written a novel "Between Here and There", an apocalyptic sailing adventure of being lost at sea. Jim, to his friends, is also a contributing writer to various popular magazines as Latitudes and Attitudes, SEA, Multihull, and others.
