| Introduction | I'm a college instructor with an MFA in film from Columbia and an MA in Media, Culture and Communication from New York University. I'm an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer. I directed the human rights documentary, "The Fourth Green Field" and more recently produced and wrote a series of CLIO-winning narrative films for the cystic fibrosis community. In 2008, my husband and I adopted a baby girl. As a media professional, I care very deeply about the messages my daughter receives. (She's the "darling" in Media Darlings.) I started this blog to open up a conversation with other parents and media folks to find out what connects with kids and young people; what helps them learn; what excites them; and what helps them discover who they are. They're interesting questions, at least partly because they can never really be answered; they can only be explored. As the culture shifts and evolves, media adapts to reflect and communicate those changes. It's always fascinating to me. |
