| Introduction | I've been hanging artworks and hugging artists in and around East London for around 10 years now. When I first started, I had no idea what I was doing. Fresh off the train from the frozen North, I blagged my way into various menial gallery jobs, and continued blagging until I was managing a small independent 6 months later. Far from being borne out of an unwavering sense of self-belief, this was achieved through blind fear and an unwavering need to eat. A decade later, I have come to realise that the best way to learn anything is to jump in the deep end and to be slightly unbelievably fucking terrified. My job has taken me to some amazing places, I've met heroes and villains, curated shows in derelict warehouses and palaces, spray painted the streets and nearly been arrested, listened to endless coked-up socialites talk about themselves whilst pretending to give a shit. I've worked 7 days a week for months and still not been able to make rent. I've had coffee flung in my face by hysterical arseholes and met people who I now consider my family. In short, it's been fucking awesome... |
