| Introduction | Many people know I worked as an artist for Disney for a zillion years and currently teach at CalArts but they may not know I paint. So I'll probably post only my paintings on this blog. Years ago I'd often paint on location. But when I got home I usually HATED what I had done because I relied too much on what was in front of me, so the finished composition was often terrible. So now I go about painting in a different way. Now I make them up and am very interested in design. Many people think of design as only applying to flat art, like making flat paper cutouts or collages. But actually design can apply to anything whether a coffee maker, a sculpture, a photograph, or in my case a painting. When I decided to start painting several years ago I fought with myself whether to do abstracts (which I love) or representational paintings. I finally decided to do representational paintings but to approach them like abstracts. CalArts keeps me pretty busy so I don't paint as much as I'd like. Also painting for me is kind of a struggle, but that's ok because ultimately I like the look of that struggle. So when I can I'll post my paintings here. |
