Introduction I have been working in clay since a first class with Prof. Merle Zirkle at Grinnell College, in 1979, earning my MFA from the University of Iowa in 1989. I have operated Please Touch Pottery, full time or part time, ever since. I hope here to share a collection of essays on education as an artist. Comments are welcome. I'm also a graduate of the Masters program in Museum Studies at the University of Kansas, 2011. My profile photo is by Rob Johnson, a terrific potter and photographer, who works with the Omaha Clay Works. The piece next to me is number ten in my "Firetrap" series. Fired in the anagama outside of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. I also make full sized, comfortable, clay armchairs, and kitchenware for recreational medievalists.

Your people want to make a statue in your honor. What will it be made out of and what victory will it commemorate?

Your people? Who are my people? Bronze, for durability. And victory over the temptation to quit.
