Introduction | I'm a computing professional (since 1961) and have also been an educator in the field (mostly part time) since about 1968. I believe computing is a wonderful, stable, good paying career field, especially for women. In my career I've worked with and for many women, some of whom are now high executives. I've witnessed first hand how women in computing readily and frequently break through the "glass ceiling" and I want women considering career options to know more about this field because there are fewer women going into it today than there were 20-30 years ago, even though the number of opportunities has skyrocketed. I want to dispel some of the myths (such as the myth that most of the jobs are being outsourced or the myth that computing is only for nerds who like to play video games all day). Many of the women interviewed here have stayed in computing, others have migrated to management, sales, or other positions. If you are interested in participating, let me know. |
