Introduction	I live in Santa Cruz with my wife, Laurie. I have two grandchildren, Briton and Oona by Erika, my daughter-in-law, and Jason, my son. My career has focused on teaching writing at the University of California at Santa Cruz. I have also been involved in local politics, serving for eight years on the city council and on other boards as well as serving as Mayor of Santa Cruz from 2000 to 2001.
