Introduction The title of this blog is inspired by the work of Masanobu Fukuoka, author of The One Straw Revolution. Fukuoka practiced what he described as "no-plowing, no-fertilizing, no-weeding, no-pesticides, do-nothing method of natural farming." Fukuoka recognized that it is nature, not humans that grows crops. This mentality is a far cry from today's technology-based agriculture, which values scientists in laboratories over farmers in fields, pesticides from a bottle over soil-enriching micro-organisms, and GMOs over ancient seeds that know the land better than any human. Current agricultural practices are causing a rapid decrease in planetary biodiversity and contributing heavily to global warming, calling now for a One Seed Revolution that preserves native seeds and the key they hold to global food security.
