Introduction | I write irreverent (and hopefully humorous and thoughtful) religious material that challenges the status quo found within Christianity. In other words, I make fundamentalists angry. My first book, The Crazy Side of Orthodoxy, was published in 2011 by Frank Schaeffer's Regina Orthodox Press. My forthcoming book, Freedom to Doubt (published by Tellectual Press) looks at the dichotomy between faith and doubt. Why religious material? I raised nominally Roman Catholic, and became a devout born again Evangelical (and fundamentalist) Christian in my early twenties. Yet, my doubt Thomas nature led me on a 10 year journey of reading the Bible, Church history, and spirituality with a critical eye. I joined the Greek Orthodox Church in 2003, in which I remain, but a 3 year battle with life altering health issues kept the doubting Thomas within alive and well. And yet, despite my doubts about my faith, I remain a Christian. I am also a political writer, pyrotechnician, videographer, and an avid reader and writer of Science Fiction and Fantasy. My goal -- if not my dream -- is to break into the SF/Fantasy genre which I have loved since I played D&D back in the 80's. |
