Introduction I have been writing avidly since the age of 10, when my father set me up as a pen pal with my cousin in Ohio--before zip codes! I glided easily into writing poetry and short stories, and even wrote a few plays which my siblings, cousins and friends starred in. Years later, in my new-found religion as a Latter-day Saint, I was given the calling as Public Affairs Specialist. I schmoozed with newspaper editors and they became familiar with all my posts and blurbs. I also did Public Relations for the nearby "Fresh Air Fund." One day I needed a reporter and photographer from the local weekly to cover a picnic for the Fresh Air kids. The editor said, "You can write it." So, I did. With that, I received my first By-line in a newspaper. I was a stringer, then was asked to be a full-fledged reporter. In 2005, I won a Pennsylvania Keystone award. I came in second place for feature story writing in my category in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. My friends all told me I should write a book. Novel writing and newspaper writing are very different, but I am learning.
