About Me

Hi, my name is Caitlin and I am a penguin biologist at the New England Aquarium. You may be wondering how I ended up with the coolest job ever, well, I got my start working with penguins as a volunteer here at the Aquarium 9 years ago. Working with penguins is a lot of scrubbing, cleaning, and getting bitten - along with being cold and wet most of the day - but it's one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever have! In my time at the Aquarium, I have raised over 30 penguin chicks and drove six noisy, southern rockhopper chicks home to the aquarium, all the way from Sea World Orlando! In November 2008, I traveled to the farthest reaches of South America to study southern rockhopper penguins on some of the most remote islands in Chile. Read about my adventures learning more about these amazing birds and helping to protect diminishing penguin populations.
