Introduction | My focus is “things local”. It is on the local level that deep values are shared across political lines. It is loyalty not just to family but to place, neighbor and community. It is not "place" in the abstract. It is a real place such as my hometown of El Paso, Texas along the frontera in the Chihuahuan Desert beneath the Franklins, near the Hueco, Sacramento and Organ mountains, along the Rio Grande . . . It is this deep sense of belonging to a place and a people that feeds my interests in and viewpoints on things local: farms, neighborhoods, hiking trails, farmers markets, indigenous food, native plants . . . |
