| Introduction | Doing what I can to promote patient participation, engagement and dignity (that last one will get better with more of the first two, I think). My first career was 20+ years as a news and medical reporter. The patient advocacy chapter started when I lost my father to a preventable hospital-acquired infection. Just this year, thanks to what I learned, I was able to make an important difference when my daughter was hospitalized with a rare nerve disorder. (Life works in strange ways, doesn’t it?) As a reporter, I loved telling stories that uplift and inspire. Fortunately I don’t have to look far to find them in the world of health care. I hope you share these stories, and maybe grab a little inspiration of your own. |
