| Introduction | I left secondary school in the early 1980s. The PE regime was very strict and lessons were conducted along military lines. The PE kit was all white: it consisted of white T-shirt, shorts, socks and plimsolls. All items had to be purchased only from the official school uniform stockists. The PE kit was also worn for athletics. Kit had always to be in pristine condition. Initially pants were not allowed, and any boy caught or admitting to wearing them was made to go and take them off. Later this rule was relaxed, and this, combined with the increased use of nylon shorts, helped to develop my interest in PE kits which lasts to this day. |
