| Introduction | Major Shawn T. Robinson completed three combat tours in Iraq and recently served as an advisor in Afghanistan. During language and cultural training, Shawn learned Dari and Pashto, the two most commonly spoken languages in Afghanistan. While many differences between Afghan and American cultures were highlighted in training, Shawn identified a need for common ground to connect the two. While away on training, he deeply missed his young daughter back home. It occurred to him there was an Afghan father missing his own child at home. Using three languages of English, Pashto, and Dari, Shawn hoped to unite American and Afghan readers and help dispel prejudices, on both sides. Now Shawn hopes families around the world can enjoy the story of David and Jawid. Shawn is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and Military Writers Society of America. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shawn currently lives in San Diego with his wife and daughter. He loves graphic novels, comic books, and anything written by Michael Crichton. |
