Introduction | I was born in Swansea, South Wales. On leaving Grammar School at 17 I worked as a trainee Compositor in what was then the Printing Industry dominated by letterpress printing. I had a pleasant childhood despite my father dying when I was two. I developed a mild form of epilepsy in puberty, but thankfully it is usually fairly well controlled by medication. I have a large family, so although life was difficult for my mother, the extended family were very supportive. I trained for teaching in the early 70s. It was as a result of me choosing a career change that I became friendly with Christine, who has proved to be a loyal and loving wife for 36 years. We have two grown up children, a daughter living in France and a son who works in London. I took early retirement from teaching in 1999 and worked part time as a Support Worker with profoundly and moderately disabled adults for a further 6 years. As a committed Christian my personal interests are many and varied. Living close to the Peak District enables me to combine my love of walking, photography and local history. |
