About Me

I am a business owner, nurseryman, and garden writer. With 28 years in the garden center business I have watched the emergence of the big box retailers and the attendant loss of business for the independent garden center over those years. I feel that the future of garden center retailing is in the open communication between the consumer, retailer, and wholesale distributor. This blog was the first nursery or garden center blog to allow and encourage comments from its readers, as well as being the first to discuss the nursery industry. Advertising as we know it is dying. The consumer is burned out and tired of being bombarded with so much noise. Consumers will take an active role in helping businesses that they like through their own blogs and word of mouth. I have been a leader in the quest to encourage small and medium sized garden centers to start the conversation via blogging. Living in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, my wife Monica and I own The Golden Gecko Garden Center in Garden Valley. Located between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe it is an area of great beauty and our home for the last 20 years.
