About Me
449 kilometers. This is the distance, by bicycle, between St. Quentin on the outskirts of Paris, and Loudeac, in Brittany. 449km is as far as I could ride in just under 24 hours, and is as far as I got on the 2007 Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) 1200km Randonnee, held in August. It wasn't enough. Not by half. It wasn't enough to complete even half of the route, and it wasn't enough to satisfy me in terms of the goal I set for myself. There is no question that I want to go back (probably many times) and complete this ride. So returning to France to once again ride PBP is a goal that will always be lurking behind everything else that goes on in my life. Aside from the core things, like family, my life revolves around bicycling. My wife used to tease me that all my passions were predictable as they all began with a B: Baseball, Bicycles, Books, and her. I still follow my beloved Detroit Tigers, but not as closely as 20 years ago. I still read daily, but I'm not the book fiend I was once (even though I work for a bookseller). While my wife will debate this, bicycles and bicycling are a solid 2nd place on the list now.
