| Introduction | I was born in Albania, located in the southwest corner of Eastern Europe. I crossed the Atlantic at seventeen, but part of me never left Albania. I now live in East Texas (a fascination with the East perhaps?) with my husband and our little boy. The kitchen is my playground where I am surrounded by pots and pans, bushels of vegetables and bowls full of fruit. It is where memories of Albania are rewound and replayed, experienced anew, with a few added spices, techniques, and flavors. The kitchen is where I rest, learn, experiment; it is where the many parts of myself collide onto each other, like strangers in the street. They turn to look and meet a familiar gaze, a part of self that was missing, and in a moment of magic, they embrace, like perfectly married ingredients; they comprise a whole of many parts.
