| Introduction | Since I was a child I have loved reading and have maintained a journal off and on for more than 30 years. My book, "Teaching the Story: Fiction Writing in Grades 4-8" (Maupin House, 2007) reflects these twin passions of reading and writing. "If you want to write, read!" I am presently writing my first young adult novel, you can find out more under the "Half-Truths" tab. I love to read, listen to audio books, garden, teach writing, and am learning to golf. I co-publish the "Talking Story" newsletter with Joyce Hostetter and am a judge for the fiction contests sponsored by the Center for Writing Excellence. |
| Interests | In addition to teaching writing, I love listening to young adult books on CDs, biking with my husband Creighton, giving homemade strawberry jam and applesauce to my friends, planting flowers, and chocolate. Not necessarily in that order. |
| Favorite Movies | West Side Story, Gone with the Wind. |
| Favorite Music | Classical, bluegrass |
| Favorite Books | Inkheart, Inkspell, Airborne, Al Capone Does My Shirts, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Moves Make the Man, Hiroshima, The Bomb, Grapes of Wrath, The River Between Us, Mudbound |
I grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ and moved to Charlotte, NC in 1986 when I married my husband, Creighton. I became step-mother to Leslie and Lindsey and then we had three more daughters: Lisa, Lori, & Lydia. I have 3 granddaughters and one grandson-who I love reading books to!
