| Introduction | I once told a friend that I like living in hectic cities because the pace keeps me motivated.In reply, he said, "You don't need a hectic city, you're hectic enough as is." And because of that, I've made the animated, but hardly frenzied city that is Melbourne my home base these past 7 years. If I were to omit a single sentence from a conversation, it would be the cliched ice-breaker, "So, what do you do?" and replace it with, "So, what will you be when you grow up?" I'm not interested in the investment banker, the waitress or the busker. I'd much rather hear about the aspiring novelist that appears in the form of an investment banker, the doctor posing as a waitress and the busker working towards becoming the next Carlos Santana. As for me, when I grow up, I will be a novelist, a presenter and a columnist. In the meantime, I am a daughter, a sister, a domestic partner, a friend, an occasional model/actress and a writer. |
