Introduction Richard Beck was born September 2, 1955 in Coatesville, PA. He graduated from Coatesville High School in 1973. Beck earned a BA in English from Villanova in 1977 and his PA teacher certification from Immaculata in 1979. He received an MA from West Chester in 1980. Beck did post graduate work in Landscape Design and Horticulture at Temple Ambler. He did doctoral work at Temple in Urban Education and Educational Psychology. He self-published his first book of poetry, The Edge and The Sheared, in 1980. Since 2012, he has published six books: Eighth Avenue South 2013, Visions of Tyambee 2014, The Vignettes 2014, Leftovers 2020, Horace Rantigan 2022, and Horace Rantigan II 2023. He taught English from 1978 through 2012. He taught for Farmworkers Opportunity and the Chester County Intermediate Unit's (CCIU) Migrant Education Program from 1978-1987, and the West Chester School District (WCASD) from 1988 to 2012. His first twelve years in the WCASD, were spent as the ESL and Adult Basic Education Coordinator. Beck returned to the classroom in 2000. He taught at Exton Elementary from 2000-2001, Peirce Middle School from 2001-2005, and East High School from 2005-2012.
