About Me

The name of this blogger is Jer Bear. I was born in Melbourne, Australia but raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I’m fiercely Democrat, mostly Irish and Catholic when my mother is around. I shaved a mohawk at 23 during my rugby days at the University of South Dakota. In November of 2004, the people of this state, beleaguered and confused by tens of millions of dollars worth of attack ads, cast out Senator Tom Daschle, the most powerful, selfless, and genuinely caring public servant they ever had. They replaced him with an evangelical twit named John Thune who graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and prides himself in not believing in evolution. It’s enough to make any fair-minded progressive move to Iceland, home of eccentric and beautiful pop singer Bjork, whom I am madly in love with. But, not me. I don’t know where I’ll be in a month, but I will always keep a watchful eye on this place I call home.
