Introduction Barbara Celis is a reporter and a documentary filmmaker, madrileƱa con alma de neoyorquina y adn italiano. Maybe one day she will also be a rock star but she's still learning how to play guitar. After 13 years in New York, she moved to London in October 2012. Twenty years ago she served sandwiches in a dirty joint in Oxford Street and learnt one thing: be good at a job that you like or be forever unhappy making sandwiches. So she chose Journalism and worked as a freelance reporter for the past 15 years. In New York she wrote regularly for the Spanish daily EL PAIS, and was a contributor for the LA Weekly, the Canadian film website Ioncinema.com, Cinemania magazine, Vogue, Rolling Stone, Ars Magazine and other publications. In London she will freelance for them and others while she waits for a second life-changing moment. Hopefully this time no dirty joint will be involved. She is also the director of the documentary Surviving Amina (2010). Barbara Celis was awarded the IX Premio de Periodismo Ciudad de Badajoz in 2012, V Premio Paco Rabal de Periodismo Cultural in 2011, (Cultural Journalism Award in Spain) and a 2009 USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Fellow.
